Started up Kubuntu 7.04 as I usually do. I processed the "updates" that were waiting to be installed / upgraded via Adept icon on the toolbar next to the clock.
After the upgrades were done, a message appeared on the screen, letting me know that a "new version" was available, and would I like it installed. "Yes" was my answer, and then asked if I would like to upgrade to Gutsy Gibbon 7.10. I again answered "Yes".
After about 45mins-1 hour later, the files had finished downloading. Then it happened. About 2 mins into the installation, a message appeared, and said that the 'debconf' package may not be in a working state. An option to continue was chosen and another message about a lib file (not sure of the name) with the same message as before.
With each of the messages an option to submit a bug report was given. Each time I selected "bug report", each time the "hour glass" displayed for about 30 secs, then disappeared. Figuring the report was sent, proceeded, and was given the second error, submitted the report, hour galls came and went.
Contined... Screen sat and sat and sat, and said that the install would take 3h 57mins to complete. It sat there for at least 20mins displaying the same message.
During the loading of all the upgrade files, it said that I was not to cancel the process at all. I had no choice. Rebooted, and of course, you guessed it, it's "broken". I know, you are probably saying that I shouldn't have interfered, but it wasn't my fault that the installation files had problems. My choices were limited. "Continue" or "Abort". I figured that "Abort" was not an option, because of the warning during installation, so, "Continue" was my only option.
It has taken me "a dog's age" to set up 7.04 "the way I like it". Now, it seems, I may have to re-install. It would have been quicker to install from the "iso" image online, than having to go throw a broken upgrade.
If the installation files are "broken", then why allow the upgrade at all?
