Nope, won't blow up. On a desktop that's plugged in anyway, power management isn't an issue. It is/can be with laptops that go 'mobile.'

Thats its starting minus the GUI?? Not entirely sure it is as I have all the text from when it loads up sitting there, and when I dont backspace over the splash and quiet my screen shuts down as it is recieving no signal.
But when i do backspace over the quiet nd splash things I do get the little flashing "_" just in the bottom left hand corner, as if its waiting for me to do something.
Is it possible not recognising the ATI radeon X800 card, would have surprisd me as its been about a bit already.
This is off the top of my head but sometimes the live cd's are a bit quirky as to the speed at which they are burnt. Can you try burning another cd at less than 8x? and see what happens. Don't ask why this is so but it has happened to me and others as well.
Did notice someone say about burn speed of 4x or less earlier, cant do it right now as I'm at work, but it's someting i can try tonight, it was burnt at max speed so that could be why. I'm downloading the dvd version but it would be quicker for me to try this burn speed thing, give it a go tonight and I'll report back.
Would like to say a quick thanks, I am astounded by the amount of support and speedy support that I have already been given.
I can just imagine if this was a windows problem all you get with them is a error report and then you never hear anything ever again.
It is possible that your ATI radeon X800 card is the source of your trouble. Have you tried using the boot into VGA option?

Erm if thats the safe mode option then yeah have tried that one, would ave thought the ATI x800 to be found ok seen as its an old card I'll double check the VGA option thing in a moment
Ok it didn't work when telling it to run just normally but I think thats because I didn't quite give it long enough to boot up, but I ran it with qiuet and splash disabled and it booted up into the desktop so I can at least start to explore. I also had to switch from the DVI cable from my graphics card to the older style cable can't remember what its called right now;
But I have no sound on it, I have an Audigy 2ZS sound card.
I also have no internet connection and I don't know how to get the net going or even how to install drivers for the devices I have.
I have a Belkin USB wireless adapter which connects to my netgear modem and I am with AOL. I did read something about having to input ISP address and DNS things but I am quite sure thats with aol all those are dynamic and change everyimte the comp switches on, at least I think thats what happens, (I am such a noob), anyway any help as to how I can get this going.
Sorry for being a pain in the backside.
At least now I can work from somewhere and as soon as a download of something else has finished which could take a couple of days I'll prob wipe my system and start up a dual boot of my winXP (for gaming) Kubuntu for everything else. Thats if I can get everything working or at least good chance of getting everything working on this test version.
Also, It is going to be beneficial if you would stick to posting this thread in just one area. Choose which one and mark the other as 'CLOSED' please.
