    Lost administrator privileges after update

After I did this morning's updates (2007-11-13), I lost the ability to use administrator privileges in the System Settings. I can still use the sudo option in the terminal and do other things requiring administrator rights. I checked my laptop which also has Kubuntu and I did have the rights in question there. However, after updating it, I'm experiencing the same loss of administrator rights in the System Settings. I have continued to check the various forums and other news sites to see if anyone else has had the same experience, but to no avail. If anyone could provide help, I would greatly appreciate it. Thank you.

When you say "lost privileges", can you tell us more? What do you see? Does it say your password is rejected, or does the "Administrator Mode" button not even work?

Thanks for the quick reply. What I mean by indicating I "lost privileges," I will be asked for the password if it's not been recently entered. I give the correct password, but all of the options available to the administrator remain grey. Another option which requires administrator rights and does not work is the "Adjust Date & Time" found by right clicking on the clock and date in the system tray. I will be asked for the password, but I'm never given the screen to make any changes. I first noticed the System Settings problem this morning when I was checking the System Services. I click the Administrator button, gave the password, but the screen remained the same with no ability to make changes.

Problem solved. I was beginning to suspect my problem was using administrator rights with KDE graphical installations such as those found in the System Settings. I decided to check out "Add/Remove Programs" from the menu. After giving my password, the program displayed. I further checked out "System, Add/Remove...--Package Manager" and that also displayed properly for use. So, I then found I could use administrator rights in the System Settings again. I do not know what actually solved my problem and why.

Hmmmmmmmmm ... we don't like "mystery solutions" much!

However, you've just gotta love an OS that fixes itself!

No, I don't like mystery solutions either. By the way, as I wrote earlier I experienced the same problem this morning on my laptop immediately following the updates. I checked that everything was working fine before updating, then I updated. After the updates, I had the same problem as on my desktop. However, I used on my laptop the same steps which "solved" the problem on my desktop and, again, the problem was solved. Even after rebooting everything is OK.
