Change Blue & speed up login

I need to figure out how to get rid of the blue default wallpaper that shows up before and after the login process without screing up my system. I did it once before and it changed my entire login look.

I changed the login wallpaper in advanced settings and now I get an ugly square login box after the boot process. It has also rendered the KDM manager useless. I reinstalled kdm manager and it changed it back, but I have the blue wallpaper again.

I want to speed up this process as much as possible.

I have an amd3700+ 64-bit system with nvidia gf4 video.

If you want to remove the splash screen: K Menu | System Settings | Splash Screen and select none. Similarly, you can select K Menu | System Settings | Desktop | Background and opt for No picture and under Options select a different color.

Thank you, that got rid of the splash problem, however, I want a picture on my desktop, so I can't select "none."

The problem I have is that I want to get rid of the blue wallpaper that shows up before and after the login.

The wallpaper that flashes is "kubuntu-wallpaper."

      Thanks!!!

Re: Change Blue & speed up login

Fair warning: MAKE A BACKUP COPY OF THE FILE(S) FIRST - ALWAYS!

The file I think controls displaying "kubuntu-wallpaper" is /etc/kde3/kdm/backgroundrc. The file I think controls the normal blue background on the desktop is /etc/kde3/kdm/backgroundrc.dpkg-dist.

These files require access by root if any changes are to be made.

That was a great tip! I was able to change it, but now when the login screen comes up, I get the old square KDE Login. It has the background I want, but the login is ugly!

          Any suggestions?

Re: Change Blue & speed up login

Thanks for everyone's tips. I see now why Kubuntu sucks. It is buggy, has always been buggy and it is too bad. Ubuntu - ug! Ugly brown!!! Kubuntu? Change your bakground during login and you get an ugly square box and lose your theme.

Here's a tip Kubuntu folks, look at Suse, Freespire, PC Linux and you will see why you're lagging behind.

Potentially, the program is great, but the minor flaws drive a normal computer user crazy. I DO NOT HAVE TIME TO TRY AND FIX EVERY PROBLEM THAT CROPS UP. I AM TURED OF WASTING DAY AFTER DAY ON THIS BLUE LOGIN AND NOW UGLY LOGIN PROBLEM.

            GET A CLUE!

Re: Change Blue & speed up login

                After some more reading.

The login screen that a user is presented with, and which you are trying to change to your personal desire, is controlled by /etc/kde3/kdm/kdmrc. Any modification must be done as root, and as always, make a backup copy before you make any changes to this (or any other) system file.

Instructions on making changes to this file can be reviewed in Chapter 4. Configuring kdm. If you don't want to make modifications to this file manually, you can do so with the K Menu | System Settings | Advanced | Login Manager

Hope this additional information helps you.
