I have just managed to d/l the dvd image, only took 2 weeks on dialup
Checksum was ok so first thing was read the manual, mm appendix A was not viewable and the rest of the manual seemed to have not a lot to do with Kubuntu, or at least the K part. So next thing was to try booting on the spare system I built for testing this before I try and get it on my main boxes. From the start menu I selected check CD, eventually it reported back that 1 file was corrupt, but did not tell me which one I made an assumption it was the manual file that I could not read and proceeded to try the install.
The LiveCD loaded though very few of the apps worked, selected install to see how it would go. System is an AMD64FX with nvidia card and new empty 300 Gb harddisk. The first few steps were OK for locale and other settings then the error message that partman would not load and the choice to retry, ignore or abandon. Retrying did nothing and ignore completed the rest of the preliminary questions befor the system fell over as there was no harddisk partitioned or formatted.
Rebooted LiveCD and tried manual running of partman, it would not start but there was a gui partitioner available (sorry forgot its name) and with that I could create a basic partition table with /, swap and /home but install fell over in the same way.
Is there a way to find out which file is in error on the dvd? as it seems that it must be something other than a manual that is broken. Then I can d/l just one file instead of spending 2 weeks d/l the whole thing again.
Once I get past the first install I can then start experimenting with the install until I can get it to work the way I want before I upgrade my work boxes
