    Video resolution problems

I appear to be having the same problem with 7.10 that I had with 7.04. Intel dual core 64 with a builtin Intel 865 video chip. I had trouble with 7.04 video so I did backup and clean install of 7.10. A few minor problems, but it found my video card and monitor and did what appeared to be a good job of it. I'm running 32 bit not 64 bit due to Firefox and Flash issues. I have a Sylvania 17 inch LCD. After 4 days of successful running I noticed that my clock seemed to be out of whack so I did a reboot and went into BIOS and corrected the clock. When I did F-10 to restart I got what appeared to be a normal start up. I get the Kubuntu splash screen followed by the small hollow x that appears normal. However, I now get a pattern of a weird greenish flash followed by the blinking x then a repeat of the green flash. Hitting the cpu power button goes into a normal Kubuntu splash screen shutdown. I did a recovery boot and tried to reconfigure Xorg and that doesn't appear to work. The Xorg log has an error message (EE) intel(0): I830 Vblank Pipe Setup Failed 0. This occurs twice per occurence in the log. Any assistance will be greatly appreciated. TIA

What issues? You can run 64-bit, and install the flashplugin-nonfree package (from the standard repos) if you want flash.

I had not noticed that the Flash plugin was now running 64 bit. I haven't been paying attention. Thanks. But, I'm not sure that will fix the video issue?

Boot into Recovery Mode and type the command
        Code:
        dpkg-reconfigure -phigh xserver-xorg
Then, type X (must be capitalized) to see if Xserver works; if it does, type the command
        Code:
        /etc/init.d/kdm start
to start KDM. If Xserver does not work, type the command
        Code:
        dpkg-reconfigure xserver-xorg
leaving off the -phigh part; choose vesa as your video driver, and answer the rest of the questions best you can, choosing the default answers for anything you're unsure of.

        Type the command
        Code:
        /etc/init.d/kdm start
again, this time you should be able to run KDM.

Once you get a GUI, we can work on resolving your video issue.

Tried your good advice and no luck. using -phigh when I typed X I got a funny screen with the small hollow x in the middle and background of either various shades of gray lines or real rainbow colour mix of lines. Trying to start kdm resulted in the hollow x over a gray/black screen that flicked back and before to a full black screen. I had to do a power down to retry. The vesa option resulted in almost the same results. Only minor colour differences.

I have another lcd that I'm going to try, but the fact that I get the Kubuntu splash screens make me think that the hardware is probably OK.
