Hi,
Since I need to use an LVDS display, I need to use the vesa X windows driver on a system here (A VIA EPIA MII10000k), and this works fine in feisty. After installing gutsy from an alt-installer CD, the xorg.conf defaults to via (which is correct), and this works ok with a vga monitor plugged in (obviously, the lvds display doesn't power up).
When I then change the xorg.conf to point to the vesa driver, X won't start. In fact, I can't even get to a console. The system stops, showing the 'starting up' message, but can't get to a login prompt. I can hit ctrl-alt-f1 to f8, and the display'll change, but never lets me login. What's happening here? Even if the xorg file is broken, I would still expect to be able to login!
