Help on Downgrade

Last night (running Feisty) I tried to compile a program I got off of Freshmeat, and it said that my Qt libs were too old, though I was using the most recent ones Feisty provided. The descriptions of Gutsy on the Kubuntu site sounded nice, so I figured I might as well upgrade. It downloaded and installed overnight, and now I've got a shiny new Gutsy system.

And I hate it.

I see now that what I should have done, to get the updated libraries and things, was just to enable the Feisty Backports. I'd really like to go back to Feisty, but I'm not sure how. Is there any way to downgrade my system, as nicely and efficiently as upgrading it?

I don't know easy way to downgrade - You need lot of work to change packages to earlier versions and then you need to reconfigure settings.

Rolling back the clock as it were. Oh if only it could be done as easily as suggested.

You've probably already considered this, .... if you have a separate /home partition, you could always just reinstall Feisty via LiveCD and tell it to format the mount partitions - except for /home - and there you are. Of course, that then means updating the installed packages, configuring, etc, ....

But it is an option.

Pity.

I'm pretty sure I've got everything in one partition (except for swap, of course). I've always wondered why they always tell people to give '/' only 6Gig, and give the rest of the hard drive to '/home'. What do you do if you ever want to install more than 6Gigs of software? Debian packages don't give you the option of installing to your home folder, I don't think.

I suppose I'll have to get used to it (though if someone knows how to downgrade, please tell!). My main problem is that I can't stand Dolphin. How can you change your default file manager back to be Konqueror?

That is doable. Do some searching in this forum on dolphin konqueror default. This issue has been recently discussed and a solution provided.

Thanks everyone! I figured out how to fix dolphin on the Kubuntu IRC, as well as a few of the other problems that were bugging me, so I think I'll stick with Gutsy (especially since I hear it's real hard to downgrade). And you can easily set Konqueror as your default file manager without uninstalling Dolphin (in case you ever think you might want to use it, or something), by going into KDE's list of file associations, and moving Dolphin down on the list for type inode|directory.
