I did a clean install of Gutsy. If I select the default option in Grub of booting the Gutsy kernel, screen blanks and (apparently) nothing happens. However, if I select the option to booting in safe mode everything goes normally, taking me to a logged in root account at which point issuing CTRL-D, logs out of root and starts KDM. At this point everything seems to work fine.
What do I need to do to repair the default boot option?
