    Absolutely no sound after upgrade

I recently installed Gutsy on my Toshiba A100 notebook. I did it by installing 7.04, then running the alternate Gutsy CD on top (strange, I know, but after upgrading from my original system, I had to reinstall everything, because my system was quite messed up.)

Well, long story short, I don't have any sound at all. I think it's an Intel sound chip, and it's recognized by the system, and whenever I start, say, Amarok, it appears like everything's working (songs are playing, equalizer shows movement too), but I can't hear a thing.

I checked with KMix, and nothing's muted. Anyone have any idea what that is?

Have a look at the alsamixer command line tool, it is more informative than kmix, arrow keys to navigate the menu, and press the "m" key when you want to change a setting.

I had a similar problem in Fedora, but i have a desktop with an onboard soundcard, and a pci soundcard, so disabling the onboard sound in the bios solved it for me but i see that you are running it on a laptop, so good luck :P

I have the same laptop with the same problem :\
I checked the alsamixer thing, and set the master and other output channels to on....
I'm attaching my proc and volume level pages from alsamixer. If that helps.
