Kubuntu DVD confusion??

I finally go the Kubuntu DVD BitTorrent down - only 36 hours worth. 8^) So the image file and burned DVD are on the order of 4.27 GB and the filename is kubuntu-7.10-dvd-i386.iso. This is from the DVD BitTorrent file on the Kubuntu downloads page.

When I boot this DVD it behaves like a Live CD rather than an install DVD. I can indeed install from it, but it doesn't give me the long list of optional packages to install like Fedora. What is the difference between this file and just a standard Kubuntu Live CD (which would have taken MUCH less time to download)? Is there a full install DVD that gives me these options??

What's the difference between the Ubuntu CD and DVD?
The CD usually contains only one version of Ubuntu (Ubuntu, Kubuntu, Xubuntu, Edubuntu) and is either the Desktop CD, the Alternate CD, or the Server CD. The DVD contains the entire Main and Restricted repositories (read more about Main and Restricted here), which means it has Ubuntu, Kubuntu, Xubuntu, and Edubuntu, allowing you to install any or all four versions without needing an internet connection.

Let me see if I got this straight (I'm a little slow) 8^)

I downloaded the Kubuntu DVD from this page http://www.kubuntu.org/download.php (Go down to DVD under Gutsy (v7.10). This DVD image contains all versions of Ubuntu?? If I boot this DVD, I go straight into Kubuntu and it behaves like the Live CD version, which I've also downloaded.

Now, if I install from this DVD, I have accss to more than the Live CD?? I know that I can always install more stuff regardless of whether I go from Live CD, DVD full install, or otherwise. But, when I install from the Ubuntu or Fedora DVDs (which I assume are analagous to this install) I have LOTS more choices of what to install. Specifically, I get an option to add more components to the list of installable items - programming tools, more games, OpenOffice options, etc. I do NOT seem to see this option when I go through the installer for this Kubuntu DVD I've downloaded.

I assumed that this DVD would have tons of other options, but again it behaves like a Live CD.

The DVD just has more install packages on it than the CD. You don't necessarily see options for them when you're installing the OS, but the DVD will be in your sources list.

So, when you go to install your apps you can install directly from the DVD instead of having to download them. It's a must-have if you're doing an install for someone who only has a dial-up modem.

so when I go through the install, it is just a standard process regardless of DVD or CD, correct? And then if I want to install other packages (such as programming tools, etc.) I can get them straight from my DVD?
