    Gutsy Gibbon & ATI cards

Regarding my previous post, installing gutsy. Seeing the lack of replies, and the obvious lack of support for ATI cards, I guess I'll go and find another linux distro that will at least boot!!

I've tried several options around reconfiguring xorg; that's OK, but as soon as I reboot / restart the problem recurs!!

Such a shame really, until now K/Ubuntu has always worked for me!!

Re: Gutsy Gibbon & ATI cards

I have installed Gutsy on a couple of my machines (Radeon 9550) with only limited problems. I used the ati driver and then installed the proprietary driver. Something hosed on one of them yesterday and I had to repeat the install. That is really not unique to Gutsy. Until ATI open sources their drivers, it will always be a bit kludgy.

What kind of ATI card? I installed it on a machine with a 9600XT with no problems at all.
Specs:  Intel Core 2 Quad Q6600 (@3Ghz), G.SKILL 4GB DDR2 1066, ASUS Striker II Formula MB, Asus EN9800GTX+ Dark Knight, ABS Tagan BZ800 PS, Antec 900 Case.

The card in question is a Radeon 9200 SE; I have tried the defaults (VESA, etc), or ATI flgra(?). This allows the machine to boot / start into Kubuntu Gutsy, but when I reboot / restart, the problem re-occurs. A failure to write the file away properly?

I've now gone thru' my 'spares' box and found a (NVidia) Inno3D MX400 64Mb AGP card to try!!!
