Lost display after switching to dual monitor - noobuntu

I just upgraded to Kubuntu 7.10 & everything was going ok (it was slow for some reason, i had kubuntu 7.4 before), but it was working, then I switched on the dual monitor & it said this hasn't been tested, ok or something like that. I said ok, but nothing happened, so I thought I would reboot it to make it work, it starts up like normal I see the splash or loading screen thing, but then it gets to the part where I'm supposed to login & it just goes black (both monitors just show black, they don't disconnect or nothing, just black), & if I ctrl-alt-del it kubuntu shows the shutdown screen fine.

Is there a way I can restore the display defaults in the prompt version of the safety boot? I don't know any shell commands or nothing (other than the very basice ls, cd, etc). I'm an extremely noob noob, but all I can think to do at this stage is reinstall kubuntu. I'd appreciate any help, I was working on a project in kubuntu & I was hoping I'd be finished by today (obviously not going to happen).

Wow, looks like no one wanted to answer this one, in case anyone wanted to know (or I forget and come back to the forum), I rebooted into the recovery mode & ran the following code:
    sudo dpkg-reconfigure -phigh xserver-xorg

that changes the xorg.conf file back to default.

    Then I could run:
    sudo /etc/init.d/kdm start

which ran the graphical interface. That resolved the issue.

    Thanks for your help seithenin92
