The adept-manager bailed out with more than 750 packages still needing to be upgraded.
I rebooted and discovered that the kernel was not updated properly so I had to boot an older version which worked fine.
To finish my upgrade, I opened Konsole and ran
sudo apt-get update
sudo apt-get upgrade
that updated 500 or so packages but bailed with 200+ still outstanding. I rebooted again and this time the kernel seemed okay so I used Adept to finish the upgrade. Mostly the system seems okay--no Dolphin (which was easy to fix) and samba can't see my workgroup (described in another post on th gutsy software forum).
