    restricted nvidia driver blocks boot

    After installing the restricted nvidia driver on a qosmio laptop - it now boots to a black screen. Does anyone know how to uninstall the restricted driver?

      Thank you rog131, that steered me to be able to roll back the video driver.

      My 'thank you' was delayed by another, seemingly unrelated problem- the wifi under gutsy has stopped detecting the driver.

      Live CD-> no wifi
      Installed gusty beta-> wifi detected and working !!
      performed update and reboot ... wifi back to not working ;(

      Feisty reports the wifi hardware as 'Intel Corporation PRO/Wireless 2200BG Network Connection'

      And has never had a problem with the wifi. Does anyone have a solution to this problem?

      Edit: moved to a separate topic

        Make sure that you have the same kernel that the nVidia driver was built against. Sometimes if you upgrade one but not the other (driver or kernel) you can end up with a version mismatch which will fail at boot.

          Envy will download and install the correct proprietary driver and kernel for you. Just download the .deb package, install and run it; remove the old nvidia driver and install the new nvidia driver, tell it to configure xorg.conf for you, but don't reboot yet. Open Konsole and type "sudo nvidia-xconfig" and reboot. That should do it

          Note: This may very well fix your wifi problem too; not a promise though
