Gutsy and swap, a uuid issue.

After the last update (sun/mon) I shut off my machine for a rest as I was gone all day yesterday. So I booted up today and gutsy refused to find my swap partition with an error something like this:
    kinit: b823d8b7-c080-...... not found
    kinit: no resume image

b823.... is my swap partition. so I checked my ubuntu tribe install (udated on he same day) and it booted just fine.

So, I changed my fstab in kubuntu tribe from uuid's to the "traditional" /dev/sdax and voila, all my partitions including swap were found and mounted.

No, I did not change, add, edit partitions.

This is more than weird, it is annoying. I just hope I am the only one with this sh...t

I just don't understand the uuid's at all. the dev system was much easier to deal with.

I here you there, but I'm always looking.

Playing around with Slax on another box at the moment. Modular, interesting.

Yeah, I played with the live cd. But there is no way this lazy bum is installing slackware :P

I was thinking of mepis, although I am not sure I like thier forum too much. This forum is great...

I've been keeping an E-Live installation on a hard drive that I don't trust much, just to have something else as "back up". I had to nuke it the other day, though, when I did a major overhaul of my disks and partitioning. I may put it back on here somewhere -- it's kind of a different thing with that Enlightenment desktop. It seems to work with more of my hardware "out of the box" than *buntu does.

I use to run 3.3.2 Mepis. I still have the disc. It worked real nice. I played with the pre 7.0 disc a little, Everything is working right out of the box. They have gone back to a pure debian base away from ubuntu. It looks real nice and I think a little bit more flexable.

              >dibl<how much did you pay for the elive disc? Haha.

Yeah, I remember trying to download it. didn't have my CC so it took hours and a few tries.

I just downloaded the last mepis beta 6.9?? Try it tommorrow.

                Cheers

I paid $0.00 USD! I downloaded it at 2 bytes per hour, or whatever that slow download gives you. Just start it when you're leaving the house, and when you come back the next day, VOILA!

It's definitely worth it. (I'm "moving there" ...)

Re: Gutsy and swap, a uuid issue.

Well Fintan, my two pence worth is this, a distro becomes rather like a pair of old slippers, and I too have tried Mepis recently, asked it to install on my external drive and it did so, but then when I tried to boot into it, it couldn't find itself!
In contrast, clever Kubuntu despite being in beta, correctly installs on the external drive, and when I choose it from the boot menu, it finds itself!! I personally found the installation used by Mepis to be very confusing and far too complicated for my liking! I have tried others but Kubuntu is still the best (current warts and all!) As for the bluetooth message on log in, I won't use it so I just disable it, till it gets sorted, our network connection probs, easily worked around, and the Nvidia drivers I have not installed them as I am not bothered about 3d etc for now, so will wait until such time as this gets sorted. Whenever I try a different distro, I am always disappointed with something about it, so as I said, Kubuntu is rather like an old pair of slippers, comfortable and suits me.

TG Do let us know what you think of Mepis won't you?

I got the same behavior today after the last update. Thank god I read this before and was able to change the swap in fstab uuid=blah, blah to /dev/sdax from the live cd.

I wonder when the gods at kubuntu / ubuntu are going to address this?
