    Installing Errors

    Hey.

I was recently referred to Kubuntu by a friend, and after making a live CD i have quite taken it. I wanted to dual boot this with my existing OS (win XP), so I started to install. I ran into a problem. I can not seem to partition my HDD, at all. I have tried using the programme in the installer and the seperate one, and neither can partition my HDD, I just get errors saying I can't. Any ideas?

thanks in advance for the help.

Hmmmm -- haven't heard that one before, at least not with XP.

    1. Tell us more about the hardware -- what is this bad boy hard drive, and what motherboard and CPU? You're not running any fancy hardware encryption or something like that, are you?

    2. You might want to give GParted Live CD a shot, just to do a clean job of partitioning in advance of installing Kubuntu. You make it with an ISO image from here, just like you made your Kubuntu Live CD: http://sourceforge.net/project/showf...kage_id=173828

    3. Many folks, including me, have found the Kubuntu "Alternate Install" CD a better, more controllable installer.

    4. When you do your partitioning, don't forget to make a separate "/home" partition. Here's background reading on partitioning: http://www.psychocats.net/ubuntu/partitioning
