    Upgrading

I just installed Feisty Fawn, and I am enjoying it. What I would like to know is that, how is the upgrading done to Gutsy Gibbon, is it automatic? I don't really like the idea of doing a fresh install.

      Re: Upgrading

If your anything like me, it'll take you hours to figure out that site, lol. Or maybe I'm just a noob. 8)

##Remember, use with caution. They even say on the site##
      ####### " you have been warned " #######

Anyways, I listened to that site but I'll just post it easier or what I did, (haha, not really easier :P)

      1. Get to the '/etc/apt/' in Terminal (I used Konsole, and I tried doing it the normal way, it wasn't working for me. Maybe you'll have better luck and can get through this part easier.)

      2. Type 'su' then type in your password and get root powers. (Hopefully someone corrects me if I'm wrong, either it's your password or the root password.)

      3. Type in 'sudoedit sources.list'

      4. Then change everything that says 'fiesty' to 'gutsy'

      5. And save and once done in the Terminal type 'apt-get update && apt-get upgrade && apt-get dist-upgrade' (supposing your still sudo'ed on the root, it should say at the beginning of where your typing into something like 'root /etc/apt/# or something')

      6. Just let it update and your done.

Sorry if that was useless, just had trouble understanding some of the commands on that site and it was easier then trying to figure out how to give myself rights to change that page outside the terminal (I gave up after a hour) and just wanted to give some advice to others who found it easier that way.

      Cheers,
      Ash

To get somewhere, I've assumed that the following is known (at least):

        # Debian Package Management
        # Ubuntu Sudo vs. Debian Root

But maybe I should try to make my implicit assumptions more explicit.

          Re: Upgrading

Well, see, I mean I'm still new to Linux (1 week in counting ) And you can't always assume that the people who are upgrading are fully aware of all of Kubuntu's abilities. Curiosity is sometimes to great for some of us. :P

Of course not; I'm cooking up such crap for the fun of it
                - and everything you fail to get has to be crap, hasn't it?
