Printing slow to Epson R200

Hi,
I'm printing to an Epson R200 using Gimp.
The print is 1400x1400 but it takes an age for the printer to actually print it.
The printer swipes about once every two seconds - it's like the USB data stream is really throttled.
The CPU is low.

Anybody have any idea as to what I should check?

For ANY printer problem the first place to look is The Linux Open Printing database. If your printer is actually an Epson Stylus Photo R200 you can look at this page at that site, but it just says to use Gutenprint, so I'd consider a USB problem. Are you running through an external hub? If so, can you try running direct to the box?

Could it be set at "Super Photo" or higher? I have trouble with printing with my Epson RX600 in that, when I change the settings from Super Photo to Draft they don't always take with all apps... I even set up individual print queues with different settings and that didn't help...

Does the quality seem higher than expected when the page finally finishes?
