Can't access my Samsung m620

I just got a Samsung SPH-m620 (AKA Sprint UpStart.) Sweeeet phone. But I can't access it through USB. I can take the xD card out and put it in my digital camera and copy files to it, and I can get into it with my wife's XP machine > but both options are a pain.

It is probably a lot like my Samsung a900... did you go to the (equivalent) Menu -> Tools -> Mass Storage -> Connect to PC? It will not work if you just plug the usb into your computer.

Edit: You need to do this even if the phone says "USB Connected". And be aware that it might default to a phone-as-modem... which you probably don't want to use.

You definitely don't need any special software or driver... if you wander through the sprint forums people get confused on the issue and explain how you need a driver from samsung (for XP or otherwise)... you don't for mass storage.

You can transfer contacts via kmail and bluetooth... although I think it is one at a time.

Yes. But my laptop doesn't.

XP mounts it as Drive F:

The driver you (and the Sprint forums) refer to is the USB modem driver. The device has to be connected, then switched to Mass Storage mode in the phone's menues. XP will detect and (try to) recognize the modem as soon as it's connected. Once it is switched to Mass Storage XP detects and mounts the mass storage device. Installing the modem driver saves time; you don't have to wait for XP to try (and fail) to connect to the modem.

Yes, I know. Many people get confused on that though... so you were still having a problem then or not? I am on the Hardy KDE4 beta, but I recall never having a problem in the past with my a900... mine works with kubuntu just like it does in XP.

It worked in XP. It worked better (quicker) after installing the modem driver. It doesnt work in GG.

Ahhhhhh... I re-read your first post and realized I was misinterpreting your post... I guess you were saying mass storage was working for you under XP... I thought just the camera option... well, I guess I will be of no help, but please do post here if you find a solution... I have the nearly the same phone and might need a fix in the future. Good luck!
