NTFS Drive not appearing in /dev

Hey, just booted back into Linux after a long absence due to lack of net and discovered that for some reason, my Windows drive simply isn't showing up at all where it used to under sdb1 in /dev. Any ideas on that? its def there as flicked it down a notch in the BIOS to boot into Linux and have done every time I switch between.

Also, I plugged in an IDE drive that previously was an external into the PC a short while ago as the power supply died. It works fine in windows, but when I try to boot into linux with the drive plugged in, all I get is a grub error.

    Thanks in advance,

    Jen

    Can you find it from:
    Code:
    sudo lshw
    man lshw
    lshw - list hardware
    or from:
    Code:
    scsiadd -p
    man scsiadd
scsiadd - Add and remove SCSI devices
    -p print SCSI status

all I get is a grub error.
    What kind of error ?
    Before you edit, BACKUP !

I'm afraid that's all a bit much for me, can't make head nor tail of it at the moment

need to wait til I've successful burned off a new kubuntu cd before I can do the second as scsiadd is not installed and Adept annoyingly asks me for the CD every time I want to update for some reason.

Re: NTFS Drive not appearing in /dev

Ah, seems I have found it, for some reason it looks like it has moved to hdb1, will try editing my fstab to that and see if it works.

        Thanks for your help

hmmm, well I tried that and no joy, here is my fstab, tell me if I have something tits up please

          Code:
          # /etc/fstab: static file system information.
          #
          # <file system> <mount point> <type> <options> <dump> <pass>

have tried putting it in aas simply ntfs rather than ntfs-3g but still no dice

the error from gub... hmmm I will have to check it at some point.

p.s. does anyone know how to stop Adept from asking for the CD? I downloaded and burnt the 7.10 CD from the kubuntu website but apparently that is now no the right one and I lost hte original in the move so currently cant install anything...

Re: NTFS Drive not appearing in /dev

              Is that
              UUID=3ADE9A0FDE99C393
              right ?

              Checking:
              Code:
              blkid
              man blkid
blkid - command-line utility to locate/print block device attributes

Can you mount that hdb1 in the konsole:
              Code:
              sudo mount /dev/hdb1 /media/hdb1
or do you get error messages ?

On the Third-Party Software tab uncheck/delete the cdrom repository entry. ...

              The Grub error is 22
