Problem with wireless network, atheros chipset

Hello, I just installed Kubuntu 7.10 on my desktop PC and my wireless network card is recognized. It is an Atheros Super G.

On Knetworkmanager, it even shows the available networks, but when I try to connect to any... The proccess stops responding at the message Activation stage IP configuration started and it doesn't go any further.

    Any help will be appreciated.

Keep in mind that I cannot use the repository because I do not have network access (I don't have wired network, only wireless), but I can download stuff from my windows xp session (wireless works perfectly there).

i fixed mine by googling installing "WICD" to handle the network instead of knetworkmanager (which i believe to be the problem). I don't know how to tell you to download & install it. it would be easy if you could hook up to a wired network.

        Solved!!!

        I figured it out!!!

The wrong thing was the password encryption method...

In the knetworkmanager the default was passphrase or something like that, I changed it to hexadecimal and got a successful connection on my first try

        I guess I'm Linux green

        Thanks for the posts
