    Video card compatibility

The video card on my desktop just died. Before I put out money on a new one, I was wondering if any of you have any advice on good or bad cards. I don't need high end. I'd just like I'd just like to install it and have it work with Kubuntu.

    Any favorites?

    Any to stay away from?

    Thanks in advance,

    Re: Video card compatibility

If you just want "basic" video, then just about anything off-the shelf will work. I've tended towards NVidia cards for several years, mostly because of the decent-to-good support for the proprietary drivers. Other folks prefer ATI. Either way, if you go with NVidia or ATI and enable the proprietary drivers, even your "basic" desktop has a lot more zip to it...

Thanks for the advice Crackers. I wound up getting an NVIDIA 7300 GT. It was the only card the local Best Buy had for AGP.
