Can't get new DSL Modem to work.

Gutsy/KDE/Pent4w/onboard LAN Motorola's latest version of DSL Modem

AT&T does not support either Linux or Firefox. I have had both operating fine until my DSL modem failed. AT&T sent a new modem, however will not help with installation because I don't have IE or Microsoft OS or Mac OS.

After installing the new modem, it shows a solid green light for both power and LAN, but the DSL light continues to blink changing from red to green and back again. The instructions in the manual advise that I am to type in a specific URL to establish recognition prior to actually connecting to the internet. Although Firefox worked before, it does not open the appropriate window to apply the Username and Password necessary to continue the installation. TIA :P

is the URL an IP address, or something else?

have you tried konqueror? I have been able to connect to my modem using 192.168.0.1 in the location bar of konqueror and manually configured the modem. I have also installed firmware. Also look in system settings and check the ip addys there.
I tried Enlightenment once, it was pretty cool.

The initial setup has to make connection with AT&TYahoo. The reason is to identify my modem with the provider. After I have done that, I have to go to an address that begins with https:// (notice the 's'). Then I will be able to connect to the internet. As it is now, I can not get the DSL light burning. If I were able, I might be able to continue. I am using the new cables and filters that were provided with the new modem. After I finish my response, I will try the old ones, although I cannot ust the old power adapter, because the brand of modem changed from Siemans to Motorols. Thanks for the attempt. Konqueror does the same, by the way. Steven
