    video playback rainbow colored(SOLVED)

When I open mythtv, mplayer, totem the video playback is very distorted. It is mainly pink has lines running everywhere and is completely unwatchable. I can hear the audio in the background fast forward and all.

I noticed if I continue to open mplayer close open a few of them close just basically random click stuff eventually it will load up properly. I have been doing this with mplayer until it displays video then I load up mythtv and all is fine. Until I want to watch a video later.

Any ideas for me? Thank you all.

    Re: video playback rainbow colored

well I have been doing a bit of testing and research it seems the xv output is not working correctly for me. Right when i change to something else everything works fine. This however does not fix my problem entirely. Sometimes when using for instance skype and i got the webcams open if i open a 3d app or just randomly minimizing and maximizing i get this same distorted video. Also i can't change the video output for mythtv. I did use the take a snapshot feature in gnome player when video was distorted and the snapshot looks normal.

seems from reading it could be nvidia related problem or something i can fix in my xorg maybe. I am using driver version 100.14.19

please help as i have to open and close mplayer about 15 times and load a video until it decides to work then i immediatly open mythtv

      Re: video playback rainbow colored

I have noted the same problem on a couple of my computers. The simple fix was to use something other than 'xv' for video display. This can be changed in the xine parameters in kaffeine or other programs. I will keep looking, I think there is a thread at the ubuntu forums that I assisted with.

        Re: video playback rainbow colored

Hey thank you mike. All I can seem to find is how to switch from XV in mplayer kaffeine etc and that works great however you can't change it in MythTV i researched that I think to death. And also like I was saying sometimes skype messes up the webcams in the same way for me the distorted color pattern is the same so I am assuming skype uses XV also. Skype fortunetly rarely does this but it is annoying when it does and I try now to move apps in front of it or in general mess with things when I am on a skype call.

I guess I would just like a fix instead of a workaround those seem to be a frequently used output driver for programs.

If anyone does have a mythtv fix though that has been the worse problem for me. I get so far 100% success rate if I restart the X server then run it right away. I can post some screenshots too if it would help anyone.

        Thanks for your time

          Re: video playback rainbow colored

Try commenting out these two lines in xorg.conf:

          Option "AddARGBVisuals" "True"
          Option "AddARGBGLXVisuals" "True"

          and see if that helps.

            Re: video playback rainbow colored

I gave that a try no luck. I did notice while playing my tv tuner card then loading skype and viewing my webcam on both skype and cheese I had green picture with a some static of what my tv tuner was playing on my other monitor. When I took a snapshot in cheese the picture was fine and when talking in skype they could also see me fine. Is it possible I am getting some interference or something. Just a thought I may be on a wild goose chase I might try to just goto nv drivers see if it is nvidia related and if so i could start trying old drivers and betas. Here is screenshot it always looks like this except in mythtv it is pink.

I'm actually having this exact same problem. Does anyone know what's causing it?

                Re: video playback rainbow colored(SOLVED)

Someone over at mythtv forums was able to help me I have only tested it a little bit but so far haven't had the problem yet. I am very happy as this was a serious problem for me thank you everyone for your help on this and here is the solution for those having the same problem.

                http://www.mythtvtalk.com/forum/view...434&highlight=

Basically switch from nvidia-glx-new to nvidia-glx. I do not know what kind of performance hit I will get or what but I don't game much anyways. I will randomly check out the other driver and see if nvidia fixes it.
