    ATI Fire GL8800

I am building a Kubuntu Desktop 7.10 PC for my 11 year old daughter. I put a spare ATI Fire GL8800 video card in it. Everything works fine, except I can't get compiz to work (and being 11 years old, the 'cube' is cool...). I tried the envy script, which completes with no problems, but upon reboot, I go straight to non-GUI mode...it says no screens can be found. The PC is configured with an AMD Athlon 3000+ 64 bit processor (Socket 754 - not the 939), running 32 bit Kubuntu 7.10...

Any ideas on what to try next? I'm an nVidia guy, I pulled this out of a server a long time ago, so I don't know much about ATI's!

I would try Envy first -- if it works, it will be easier than manually fiddling with the xorg.conf file.

        Download Envy from here

You want the file on the bottom left of the OS table, where it says "Get Envy Legacy"

yeah, that's what I tried first, but.........I think I used the most recent driver listed (it gives me a choice of 3 ATI divers), and it appears that I will need to use an older one...

          Thanks for the reply!
