I'm having difficulties with an ATI IXP sound card on a Toshiba A70 laptop. The module is loaded, and the kernel sees the card. The problem is that when I attempt to output sound via artsd, the program trying to output sound starts consuming more and more CPU, until I forcibly kill it. With artsd shutdown, when I attempt to manually cat to /dev/dsp it appears to be working but produces no sound. I have checked the mixer settings, and nothing is muted. I have had it working once or twice, but within a few moments it would be back to the same situation. Any thoughts?
