OK.
Just be sure to specify the right drive (sda, sdb, sdc, etc.)
You can't mess up that "bad" drive up any more than it already is!

fwiw TestDisk has done the job so far on my 320 GB Seagate SATA.

Good job testdisk!

Changed number of heads to 255, rebooted into ubuntu, ok, rebooted into win, ok, started partitionmanager, it complained 6 times about some mismatch on that drive but I got a button with 'should I fix it' each time.
It did not complain about mismatched drive geometry anymore.

man, here's a happy camper for today.

Good job jean! You probably know more about partitioning than most folks will ever know Best way to learn is to be in trouble!

I just posted a how-to I've been working on. I'm not the expert, for sure, but as you've discovered, it is possible to approach these things carefully and proceed with decent-to-excellent results.
If you think of any tips/subtleties, feel free to post them in that thread.
