    memtest results - error 811mb

Hi, I've been having some problems with my laptop running kubuntu 7.10. Every now and again the system freezes. I ran memtest at it showed up errors from various tests at the same "location" (811mb). Anyone got any suggestions as I haven't got a clue what the results mean and what they indicate.

    Thanks in advance

    Pete

Re: memtest results - error 811mb

memtest86 runs read/write checks on your installed RAM. If errors are being reported, then it means that one or more of your RAM chips is going bad. The "location 811mb" is letting you know that at the 811 megabyte location, memory isn't reliable. The chip that this location is on depends on how many, and of what size, memory chips you have installed.

    Examples:
Single RAM 1G memory chip (replace the chip)
Two 512M memory chips (replace the second chip)
Windows no longer obstructs my view.
Using Kubuntu Linux since March 23, 2007.
