Let me begin by saying, I have file a bug report with Launchpad, but to this day, nothing has been resolved.
I have a Toshiba Satellite P200-RT2 Laptop. I installed Gutsy beta 4 (Kernel 2.6.22-10) on to it back in late September from a Live CD. Everything work like a charm including the sound, so I proceeded to install it onto my hard drive. A few weeks later, the official release became available so I preceded to upgrade through "apt-get". The kernel was updated to 2.6.22-12, at which point I lost all sound. In its place I got a incessant beeping sound and nothing else. I figured something got mixed up and conflicting, but would fixed with the next upgrade. A few weeks later another upgrade became available, Kernel 2.6.22-13. I thought for sure this would fix my woes. When it did not, I filed the bug report as mention, actually I added to an existing one that was there. I was encouraged that someone else was having the same problem as I was. I also found on a few site that gave advice "If your are having problems with your audio...", basically they had you download the latest drivers for the audio script the all Linux Distros use. I followed it to the letter. I did get more features on my KMix and inputs with more controls, but it did not actual help the audio problem. By this time there was another update, this time Kernel 2.6.22-14. This improved my situation slightly. Now I could hear the sound of the audio file or video file, but the beeping sound was there as well. As naive as it me seem now looking back on things, I thought that next update would fix my problems for sure, which has not happened as such. What I mean is, there has not been much progress in Gutsy since, which I am sure is due to the fact Hardy is due to come out soon, but the strangest thing happen recently which is prompting me to write this post. I installed the new version of KDE 4.01, and using the same Kernel configuration, basically just logging in with KDE 4 verse 3 the audio works beautifully. If I log out and log back in with KDE 3, the beeping is back. Which is a problem because I cannot stand KDE 4 as it is now.
I am not a complete newbe but I cannot figure this one out on my own, so what ever help anyone can offer would be great.
I will post the lsmod, lspci, and the dmesg (if it can fit in a post) so everyone can see for themselves.
Thanks in advance, sincerely.
