Audio I/P not working in KDE4 - more details this time

OK so I thought I had this fixed.. but my M-Audio Delta 2496 is not having it's I/P detected after I install KDE4 (I think it's actually after I install the multimedia package.. not sure though).

If I go through the process of the following

    Code:
    aplay -l
    then

    Code:
    lspci -v
    and then repeatedly use

    Code:
    sudo modprobe snd-ice1712
it will eventually work in KDE3 but I haven't gotten it to work in KDE4 yet. I have to modprobe the driver several times to get it to load... and adding snd-ice1712 to

    Code:
    sudo nano /etc/modules
    doesn't help at all.

Audio recording is my main purpose for the computer so I really need it. I've come to be fairly fond of KDE4 and don't want to give it up...

    Help

    Thanks!
    Kev

Geeeez, I can't believe Ubuntu Forum gave me "no matches" on that audio card!

Form or Function? You may like what KDE4 'promises' to deliver - eventually - but if you need your PC for audio recording, then I think you need to give serious consideration to sticking with KDE3, and wait until KDE4 is 'officially' released as KDE4.1. Hopefully, buy that time, it will perform as one expects/wants/needs it to.

OK all this proves is Bongo has company:

        http://ubuntuforums.org/showthread.p...ght=Delta+2496

it suggests qjackctl or OSS might work, and here's more things to try:

I was wondering if OSS might be the solution.. thinking that maybe something the Mulitmedia package is grabbing the I/P (input) of the card. Jack... ugh as someone posted in those linked threads Jack just confuses me.... I can get it to work of course it just seems so overly complicated. I may have to try though.

          Thanks!

Just bumping this up in the hope that someone may have found a solution.

This is reaching for thin straws, Kev, but on this page is a suggestion to make sure the permissions are set correctly on the audio group:

              http://ubuntuforums.org/showthread.p...ta+2496&page=2

I don't see any downside to running those three permission commands. Good luck with it! :P

Hey that might just work. Seeing as I can override the issue if I try. But every time I reboot it resets it.

I'll give this a try as soon as I get home.

It worked when I tried it.. then I rebooted and lost the permissions again.. now it won't work.

Something is messed up in my permissions on boot... and that's way over my head.

Jack reports that something else is using HW 0,0 This is why I can't get the card to use it's input.

I don't know what is using it... has to be something to do with KDE4 because I don't have this problem until I install it.

OK... so I FINALLY have Audacity working!!!

I had to do a dist-upgrade using update-manager-d to HH and then run JACK. Now I can play and record again.

                        Yay!

Don't feel bad Kev -- I learned a painful lesson a couple of weeks back attempting to manually install Skype on Sidux. Lost my login GUI twice before I figured out NOT to use a temporary file in my /home directory in which to do some root user operations -- I had to reinstall the OS three times before I understood what was going wrong. The "permissions" thing .... :P

Well it seems I have a combination of Ubuntu and Kubuntu on my system now! lol

I have things like "JUK" and "Hexter" installed... they work but Amarok won't... lol

                          oh my.
