Edirol UA-25 usb sound card won't work

    Hi folks,
I have the above card in use with Kubuntu 7.10, 2.6.22-14-generic. I get no sound when attempting to play mp3s in Amarok. I know the card is known to the system when I issue cat /proc/asound/cards.
    The response I get is

    0 [M5461 ]: HDA-Intel - HDA ULI M5461
    HDA ULI M5461 at 0xcedf8000 irq 22
    1 [UART ]: MPU-401 UART - MPU-401 UART
    MPU-401 UART at 0x330, irq 5
    2 [UA25 ]: USB-Audio - UA-25
EDIROL UA-25 at usb-0000:00:1c.3-5.6, full speed

As you can see I have an onboard sound card as well.

I know that snb-usb-audio is loaded from the lsmod command.
I have tried specifically selecting the ALSA device, rather than using Auto(detect), but no luck.

Thank you in anticipation of replies

I'm not entirely sure if Kubuntu does this for you but you may need to un-mute or increase the master/pcm volume for the device first. You can actually do this using KMix and selecting the appropriate mixer in the drop down list.

Thanks for your input, but no joy.
Note: KMix only refers to the onboard sound card.
