    Microtek LCD configuration

I attached a Microtek 517M LCD monitor and can not get a precise set up for it. The system detects my SIS 650 video card and lists only one Microtek LCD model in the configuration options. I have been doing trial and error to find a suitable resolution. But nothing adequately resizes the desktop so the icons are not overly large. Applications for the most part display reasonably well. Is there a way to update the driver so I can get a more accurate monitor configuration?

Thanks for any assistance you can render.

As a follow-up, thew system does not save the settings. So every time I boot the computer, it starts with an oversized vido display requiring me to manually make the adjustments. How do I solve this monitor setting problem?

Have you tried selecting one of the Generic LCD Panel options?

Yes, I selected the generic LCD for 1024x768. That is the manual setting I've been using after booting that gives me a decent screen resolution that resembles my previous CRT monitor. When I reboot, the monitor displays "over Range" and goes to the first resolution setting, 800 x 600. However, it does retain the Generic LCD 1024x768 setting for the hardware configuration. I still have to manaully change the resolution.

        Any ideas?

Are you setting the resolution in "administrator mode"? I have had this problem before and it is my understanding that changing resolution without being logged into "administrator mode" applies it to your personal settings as opposed to the system. You can usually tell this when kdm/gdm looks like the correct resolution but after logging in it changes resolution.

Perhaps setting resolution without logging into "administrator mode" should do the trick as it did for me.

That was the key! I rest the resolution without first using the administrator mode and rebooted. The 1024x768 resolution held.

            Thanks again.
