    HP Photosmart 8180?

    Hello,
In my desperate attempts to get scanning working on my system, I'm looking at new options. I had an old Canon LiDe scanner which worked great, but when it broke I replaced it with an Epson Perfection V200, which doesn't work in Kubuntu (see this discussion).

On the other hand, I have an HP Photosmart 8250 printer, which works beautifully. Reading through posts here, it seems that HP printers in general work nicely in Kubuntu!

So, to solve my problem, I'm considering getting an HP 8180 all-in-one printer. Before I buy it, I'm wondering if anyone here has had success using the HP 8180 in Kubuntu.

    Thanks,
    Matthew

If this is the one you mean:
    http://h10010.www1.hp.com/wwpc/us/en...5-3204783.html

AFAIK the 8180 is the same series (driver)

then it should work perfectly according to this:

HP Pavilion dv6 core i7 (Main)
    4 GB Ram
    Kubuntu 18.10

      Fintan,
Well, based on my experience with HP printers so far, I'm hopeful about this.

Perhaps my lesson is this: stay away from Epson. That's fine with me, as I like HP products anyway.

OK, I'm off to Staples to buy a new printer. I'll report back here on how it goes!

Anyone want to buy an Epson Perfection V200 scanner? Perfect condition, never used!

      Thanks,
      Matt

Based on the information in the link Fintan provided, I purchased an 8180, and it will not scan! Why, oh why, does the OpenPrinting page announce that the 8100 works "perfectly"? That's simply not true.

I'm sorry to make a big deal about this, but it's really a major problem to have such conflicting, confusing, and erroneous information about what works in Linux. I spent over $350, and hours of my time, based on this recommendation, as documented in this discussion.

          Not happy,
          Matt

Looks like I spoke too soon...

After a brief, glorious time last night and this morning having a working printer, I restarted my system and all is broken again. Can't print, can't scan...nothing. When I try to run the HPLIP Toolbox, it tells me it cannot find any printers connected via USB. I cannot access the CUPS thing either. It asks for various files, and when I search for them I quickly am lost in a maze of instructions again.

I didn't change anything in my system. All I did was restart.

I just about threw my computer out the window.
