unable to read NTFS hard drive

I have an external hard drive mounted in a USB encloser. When I try to acces the data on the drive I get the message hal-storage-removable-mount-alol-options refused uid 1000.

How do I access kthe hard drive? Related question how do reformat the drive to -- say ext3?

As you are asking how to reformat the drive to ext3, the logical question is: do you have any data on the drive now that you want to keep?
