    Improve Monitor Screen "Sharpness"?

    Hello Everyone,
I just bought a new Acer 22" flat-screen monitor, and it looks pretty good. But I'm wondering if there are any operating-system tricks that will help sharpen the text and graphics on the screen? Maybe there's a driver, or some application I can install?
    Thanks,
    Matt

The sharpness settings are wid the monitor itself.

The graphics depend on ur onboard graphic card.If u want to tweak ur graphic card download related softwares(ex : ati provides ati catalyst center and nvdia provides ntune utility).

Hmm... I'm not quite sure what you mean. If a screenshot shows what you are talking about, could you provide one?
There are text anti-aliasing settings, accessible at System Settings > Appearance > Fonts. Try playing with those.

I am checking on this now. My video card is an Intel model.

This made a big difference! Thanks! When I went into the anti-aliasing area, I saw that it was disabled. Prior to this discussion, I had left it alone because I didn't really know what anti-aliasing was for and I was afraid to break something. So I enabled it using "System settings."

The "Force fonts DPI" was also disabled. I enabled it, setting it to 120 DPI.

Now all the text on my system is much sharper.

Feeling emboldened by my font-improvement experiences, I also changed the "Color & Gamma" settings in the KDE Control Center > Peripherals > Monitor & Display section. I moved the "Gamma correction" slider marked "All" up and down a bit to sharpen the images on the screen.

Regarding the "Gamma correction": the instructions say to set it "until the squares blend into the background as much as possible." However, I found the sharpest settings were when the squares were not blended so much into the background. Has anyone else experienced this? Are the instructions just a suggestion, or have I done something wrong?

Once again, thank you to this forum for another helpful discussion!

        Matt

I've always felt those types of instructions are lying to me.

          Anyway, glad to help!

Oh me oh my, what's the world coming to, when I can't even trust the instructions in my Linux settings screen!
Honestly, though, I can't believe what a difference it makes to adjust those settings.
