    HDD mount problems and other

    Hi,

this question was probably asked like million times but I need help with some other thing as well.
    1.
I have installed Kubuntu 7.10 on my desktop without any problems. However after the installation I connected my other HDD (NTFS with WinXP on it) and now I can't mount it.
Whenever I try to do it I get the message:

    hal-storage-fixed-mount-all-options refused uid 1000

    2.
I did some search on the forums and this leads to my other problem - there were some suggestions to type various commands in the console but the problem is I never get any answer from the console. The only reply is OK. :-( What did I miss?

Thanks for any suggestions, I appreciate it.

How is the other HDD being connected - USB?

If you are being refused as user 1000, it is a permissions issue. Try mounting as root (sudo) an see if it corrects the situation. Your fstab may be set with 'nouser' which will make only root able to mount the disk.

Thanks for all suggestions, I kind of solved the problem already.
I found Kubuntu a little slow and unstable so I installed Ubuntu instead and believe it or not it is much quicker and much more stable.
It has no problems with HDDs, consoles or Compiz Fusion (as described in my other post).

Anyway, I know this is not the best solution but I am only starting with Linux so I am happy for any "working" distribution.

        Thanks again!

Can you explain how to do this? I'm getting the same error code on my internal sata drive I just installed.

If you go into your "System Settings" then "Advance" you need to click "Administrator Mode" and enter your password. Click the drive you want to make readable / writable and then click "Modify".

            Type should be "Automatic"

Mount point should point to a directory on your disk. Easiest place to put it for your purpose, is in your home directory. Make a new directory and remember it.

Device should be listed, no need to change.

            Check "Enable at Startup".

            Check "Writable".

Mount permission should be "Any user may enable / disable anytime".

After you close (you may need to restart) the windows, you should be able to use the drive / partition by going into the directory you made in your home directory.

Where do I find system settings?
