Envy and Kubuntu...whats the deal ?

    I have a Dell XPS M1210 ( Geforce 7400 ) graphics.

I tried using the nvidia-glx-new driver for the computer but it doesnt work nearly as well as the default driver ( 1280x1024@60hz...Screen doesnt fit !!! Fonts bigger ! not as smooth as the default driver!

So I heard about ENVY, but that wont install on kubuntu....anybody know why ? It keeps saying its missing dependencies ! I followed all the instructions....can somebody help me with the graphic driver ?

    Please..!!!

I tried fixing the missing dependencies w/ sudo envy -t...

It gets hung up on dkms ( what is that ? )

    adam@adam-laptop:~$ sudo envy -t

Excellent -- I was fumble-fingering a reply, but I guess you beat it into submission -- Nice Job!

I've been using Envy for more than a year and never heard of dkms and gawk, but I was going to suggest you do the install -f thing to force them.

It also needs "fakeroot" and some python packages, IIRC. But the recent versions of Envy have done a good job of pulling in its own dependencies -- you really should not have to independently sort them like the early versions.

dkms is relatively new. Something about kernel module management.
It was introduced into the fglrx driver installer in the 7.12 release, I believe.

gawk, I assume is GNU AWK... Yep, it is. I'm not familiar with awk, though.
              For external use only.
