I think we just found your problem!

I have no experience connecting serial or parallel devices to my Linux box. Is your Stylus C84 a USB printer? Are you using some kind of converter to use a serial cable? Are you using a "com" port, or do you actually have a parallel (aka Centronics) connection? How are you doing that? I think your problem is all about the port that you're using, not the printer drivers.

I really don't have a choice (I use dev/lp0) because I use the original cable that came with the printer and don't have a USB port available. the serial port is blank (no url)

"Serial port" and "LPT" generally don't go together. Serial ports, as a rule, are COM ports and tend to be 9-pin, while parallel ports (which most printers utilize) are 25-pin centronics and are identified as LPT ports.

Are you connecting to a 9- or 25-pin port on your PC?

Re: epson c84 printing blank test page

Sorry for the long delay. Went through the steps to set up my laser printer. It's connected via USB, but that option is part of the selection needed to set up an LPT printer so ....

This is what I did, and my laser printer is up an working (test page printed correctly):

              1. Installed the cupsys-driver-gutenprint package (I already had the foomatic-db-gutenprint package installed, but without the cupsys-driver-gutenprint package, the Local printer (parallel, serial, USB) option in the Printer Wizard was grayed out and not selectable)
              2. Shutdown system
              3. Turn on printer and wait for it to be 'ready'
              4. Turn on PC and boot into system.
              5. K Menu | System Settings | Printers | Add | Add Printer/Class | Next
              6. Select Local printer (parallel, serial, USB) | Next
              7. Click on Unknown USB #1 | Next
              8. Select Manufacturer (Panasonic) and Model (KX-P4410) | Next
              9. Keep recommended driver | Next
The remaining steps test print (works!) and set up the printer name and location.

This worked for me "first thing" without any difficulties.

tried. can't get it to work.

                doesn't print at all.

I remember that in the image below there used to be two sections : one for canon and one for epson printers. Maybe there is something there that I'm missing?

Re: epson c84 printing blank test page

It works. the problem was that there was no ink left...

BTW : how do I get the ink levels to work. I get an error , message :

                  unsupported connection type : epson

                  What does this mean?

                  thanks
