graphic driver problem

i have notebook acer aspire 5520g whit 8600gs and i have a problem whit driver because when i install new driver and reboot system will use the old and i can work onli in a text version pls help

after install it works but when i reboot ten are there the old drivers

I would advise you to do these things in sequence:

1. If you turned on Restricted Drivers Manager, turn it off, as it obviously is not working correctly.

2. Follow the instruction in "starting with no GUI" to configure a VESA display -- that will let you work in a GUI.

3. Follow the instruction "Installing Envy" to download and set up the Envy script installer, and then from that install the Nvidia driver.

4. If you have issues with the 8600GS booting up, follow the "hangs on splash screen" link and add the "vga-7xx" boot option to the boot line in /boot/grub/menu.lst, depending on what screen resolution your rig is looking for. For many laptops, it seems to be "vga=791" which translates to a 1024 x 768 screen for the boot splash and GUI login.
