Re: If i inert the external hard disk there a massage show to me
There is something called the "policy kit" that is not yet in the current Gutsy kernel, that is required to support hot plugging of external hard drives of various types. That's the short story -- it's a "bug", or perhaps a "Linux lagging the hardware technology" situation, depending on your viewpoint.
So, probably it would be possible to mount that external hard drive manually (every time) or automatically (must be connected at bootup, and stays connected). Would either of those solutions be acceptable for your situation?
If "YES", then do this:
1. Plug in the external hard drive.
2. Reboot your Gutsy system.
3. When it's running, open the Konsole window and copy and paste in these commands, one at a time, and then post the results of each command in your reply:
Code:fdisk -l
Code:df -hT
Code:blkid
Code:cat /etc/fstab

Sorry, the error does not show in the post -- at least not in my browser. Just type it in and we'll deal with it. If it is related to a NTFS formatted partition, make sure you install the package "ntfs-3g", and add your user to the fuse group. Here is information on that subject:

It says "hal-storage-removable-mount-all-options refused uid 1000". The image doesn't display, for some reason.
Anyway, this thread looks helpful...For external use only.
