    Cannot add printer/class

I cannot add a printer/class of any type in Administrator mode. The option is always grayed out. I even enabled graphic login as root and it does not allow it that way way either.

BTW, if this is not a problem in Ubuntu LMK and I'll boot to that desktop instead.

have you tried using the CUPS method? enter localhost:631 as the address in a web browser and it should bring up the CUPS interface to add a printer. how is the printer connected?....direct usb to host or via network printer server?

Thanks for your reply, CUPS solved the problem.
I had not used it before and now will use it first in preference to other methods.

Axis 5600 print server and LaserJet 4 working perfectly now.

Forum protocol would ask that you will go back to your initial post and click the modify button and add SOLVED to the subject. Thank you.
