Brother HL-2040 drivers? NOT solved yet

Hey All, I've been using this printer for 7 or 8 months now. I can't get the system to actually use the Linux drivers that Brother has on their website.. they don't show up as an option. Kubuntu doesn't come with drivers for it, but it does have drivers for the 2060 which sort of works...

I've tried to use .ppd files for this printer from a couple of sources with zero effect. I bought this printer when I was naive enough to believe that because Brother had linux drivers that it would work... any way I would like the printer to work properly and it doesn't. The print is always off to one side... and options often just don't work.

I'm looking for a way to install proper linux drivers for the HL-2040. If you can help PLEASE do!

    thanks,
    Kev

Try installing the "foomatic-db-gutenprint" package. That should contain drivers for your printer.
    For external use only.

        Re: Brother HL-2040 drivers?

This package has drivers for the 2060 which sort-of work for the 2040 but do not offer proper functionality. IE you can't print large documents and have all the text actually be on the page.

Any other sources for a driver? I've been looking.. please forgive my continued plea for assistance.
