    Odd problem with Digitrex camera

I have a Digitrex DSC-3500Z digital camera. It has 16mb of internal ram and an SD slot with a 128mb card in it. With this camera, the memory options are either-or; going into "settings" on the camera I can select internal or external memory. When I connect it with 'Internal' selected (or the SD card removed) everything is fine. A USB storage device icon appears on the desktop and I can access and transfer files with Dolphin. For your reference here is lsusb and dmesg

    lsusb looks like this
    lars@toshiba:~$ lsusb
Bus 001 Device 016: ID 0461:0828 Primax Electronics, Ltd
Bus 001 Device 010: ID 045e:0040 Microsoft Corp. Wheel Mouse Optical
    Bus 001 Device 001: ID 0000:0000
    and dmesg looks like this

But when I try to use the external memory 'nothing' happens. No desktop icon and no USB mass storage device.

lsusb takes about 3 or 4 minutes to run and finally shows me this

Re: Odd problem with Digitrex camera

My digicam, which uses SD cards, had some issues being recognized in Dapper, and I went out and bought a cheapo SD card reader on a USB cable -- I think it cost $19.95 or so. For some reason, the SD card in that reader is easily picked up as a "media" device, and I just copy the pix into a folder in my home directory. Just a thought ...

I have a work-around. My RCA Lyra MP3 player has an SD slot. It works just fine and Kubuntu mounts internal and external memory with no problem. I can use it as an SD reader. But that seems kludgy to me. The Lyra stays in the car most of the time; it is never handy to use with the camera.
