    Kubuntu on LG E200 Laptop

    Hello everyone!

I just want to share my experience installing Kubuntu GG on my laptop. I hope it to be useful...

    First, the hardware:

Processor: Intel Pentium Dual Core 1.60 GHz
    2048 MB DDR2 SDRAM
Graphics Card: ATI Mobility Radeon X1250
    HD: 160GB S-ATA 5400 rpm
    Chpset: ATIRS600ME
    Marvell Yukon 88e8039 Ethernet Adapter
    Atheros AR5007EG Wireless Network Adapter

    - You have to install Kubuntu with the alternate install CD because this version don't have the drivers for the Graphics Card, but you can download then when you have Kubuntu installed.

    - You may need to press and hold any key once in a while during installation. I not sure about this but Kubuntu hangs in this part, you just need to press and hold a key and then the install continues.

    - So far the Ethernet works, the wireless works. The sound, the integrated microphone, CD/DVD drive, all of them works.

Please let me know if you need some information regarding the installation of the hardware.

Re: Kubuntu on LG E200 Laptop

    Hi,

I am glad that you have got this laptop working. I have just bought the same laptop and like it a lot.

I have been able to get everything working with gutsy using the alternate install as you suggest. Thanks for that tip!

I can confirm that you need to occasionally push keys during the install to get it to work. Strange but no real problem.

I am having problems getting the wireless and bluetooth to work. I have tried overeating I can find an think to get this working. Your help would be great at this point. I am not able to activate the wireless with the Fn key as I would expect. I suspect that this is a Win Vista software control. how did you get it working? For me this is the real killer problem.

The other problems are that many times it does not shut down or reboot correctly. I am left with a black screen (but it is on) and the power and battery lights on but no response. It does not reboot with Ctrl Alt Del. If I shut it down with the power button it goes off but then when I switch it on it returns to its unresponsive state. the only solution is to remove the power and battery and then it works again. Installing with the noapci option seems to help but I still need to confirm.

On the plus side. Wired network is fine, screen and fglrx drivers work (after manual intevention... it is detected as vesa driver during install) DVD burner works, HDMI might work but I have no HDMI TV to test it on!

One thing to note is that I did not complete the vista install when I got the laptop so I do not know if some hardware might get updated or finalized during this process. It could also be that LG has some updated firmware for the laptop. (This is just speculation)

    Ciao,

    Mr Sev
