Big Problems with my Soundcard (cant hear a thing with it)

hey,

i've got a problem with my qtec 5.1 sound card -
i can talk in my mic and hear it through speakers, but i hear the sound of a movie or music file.
and its strange, that the cmd "asoundconf list" shows 2 soundcards - i only got 1 !

in VLC u can change the audio settings, so i did and tried this device:

"Untergeordnete Geräte: 1/1
Untergeordnetes Gerät '0: subdevice #0
Karte 1: CMI8738MC6_1 [C-Media PCI CMI8738-MC6], Gerät 2: CMI8738-MC6 [C-Media P CI IEC958]"

and then i heard the sound ! but its only possible in VLC to choose device - not in all programs
so its possible to generally set all audio to this device ?
