Anyone know if I would be able to get my winmodem working using ndiswrapper? My modem uses a conextant 1059 chipset.

It's possible...
A company called Linuxant does make Linux drives, but you have to purchase the full version. The free versions limit download to 14.4 kbps.
If you want to try the Windows drivers, go for it. ndiswrapper is in the repos.
(If I were you, I'd just buy a different modem. My local Radio Shack carried a non-Conexant modem, but I don't know about yours.)For external use only.
