    Hard Drive question

I'm about to turn an old comp into a server (files, print share, simple stuff) for home. It has the standard number of IDE ports (x2) but only a single SATA port.

What I'd like to do, is purchase a SATA drive as the main drive and couple it with a same size IDE for mirroring.

    My questions are:

    Is this feasible?
Which one will be the considered the boot drive by the comp and/or OS? I.E. will the IDE instead of the SATA expect to be the boot drive?

    Thanks,

    Beemer

    Re: Hard Drive question

    Hmm... I don't know if it's possible. I don't think it's attempted too often.

I say try it. At the very least, we'll know it's not possible.

I assume, of course, you mean a RAID... If you mean just a daily backup, that'll be fine. No problems at all.
    For external use only.

Thanks for the link. It appears from that I shouldn't have an issue firing both of the drives up. I was thinking of doing a cronjob to rsync the data paths from the sata to ide like every other day.

      Thanks,
