Video Card issues

    Video Card issues

    After having Gutsy use my video card (Intel 85x), it told me to log out and restart xserver, I did and it dumbs me in tty1 (this also happens if I just restart my notebook). I can get back into KDE by using this command:

    sudo dpkg-reconfigure -phigh xserver-xorg

    But that of course does not let me keep my settings.

    Any suggestions on how I can get my video card working?

    Sounds like a something may not be loading correctly, check the kdm.log in /var/log should you not be able to see anything there, check the Xorg.0.log in the same folder.

      Or, to quickly see see the problem:
      From the terminal, "startx". This will give the error that's preventing X from starting.

        From tty1, it says

        Not able to give the display of the log files since I am using my windows box to do this right now.

                    If you click the Additional Options when posting you can just attach it as a file to save space in the posts.
                    Its the xorg.conf in /etc/X11 that would be useful if you can post that.

                              Try this, I have removed some stuff thats probably not used and removed the monitor refresh settings as these can probably be detected for you automatically. (and from what I can tell the these settings are causing the issue)
                              Double check the file first to ensure your happy with it before using it. Its set to use 1280x1024 so edit the SubSection "Display" mode for the resolution you require.
