      Re: Video Card issues

Add the following line just under the line Modes "1280x1024": EndSubSection
Sorry I just noticed I missed that out.

          Re: Video Card issues

it dumps me in tty1 after a reboot. I try "startx" and get:

parse error line 50 of section InoutDevice
"EndSection" is not a valid keyword in this section.

          Fatal server error:
          no screens found

im trying to learn more about linux so hopefully i can find a solutionm, ill keep messing around with it

                    Re: Video Card issues

Are you sure you don't want the xserver-xorg-video-intel driver? I think it is more current and has more capabilities than the i810 driver.

                      Re: Video Card issues

if its more up to date than yes, i was using i810 because system settings defaulted to it. Do you know how I could get it and use it.

                        Re: Video Card issues

                        apt-get install xserver-xorg-video-intel

Edit your xorg.conf and repalce the line: Driver "i810"
                        with: Driver "intel"

                            Re: Video Card issues

Perhaps you used sudo to run an app like Kate?
You shouldn't, use kdesu for that.

Anyway, you can probably fix it with "sudo chown skatinjj:skatinjj /home/skatinjj/.Xauthority".
Actually, before you do that, post the output of "ls -l ~/.Xauthority". (Then use the command. It can't hurt.)
                            For external use only.
